Reaction to the Brossard report recommending the integration of the Télé-université Téluq to the UQAM
SOS Téluq! Let’s save the Télé-Université!
Astonishment: The Brossard report recommends the dismantlement of the Télé-université-Téluq to Mr Corbo, president of the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). Even if the report recognizes Téluq’s social relevance and accomplishments, its sound financial state, it nevertheless recommends the integration of some pieces of the dismantled entity within the UQAM…without at the same time giving UQAM, the organizational and professional means to pursue the mission and the development of distance learning.
Anger : We, professors, researchers, administrators have spent the essential of our energies to allow hundreds of thousand of Quebecers and French speaking people all over the world to have access to quality university education. We have conceived distance learning courses and programs, created innovative tools for transfer of knowledge, realized state-of-the-art research both in distance learning and in our respective areas of expertise and promoted Québec e-learning abroad. In 2005, we engaged with enthusiasm in the project of creating the largest bimodal francophone university. However, already disenchanted by the financial difficulties and the lack of collaboration of the UQAM, we cannot but take this misunderstanding personally, this denial of our university collaboration, our passion as well as our pedagogical convictions.
You are invited to participate in this website created by Téluq professors who wish to express their strong opposition to the Brossard report and propose alternative solutions that would ensure the development of distance learning in Québec.

Summary of our position
WE THE UNDERSIGNED ARE IN FAVOUR OF
Preserving the integrity of the Téluq, without which the distance learning model developed over the last 35 years, has no future at the UQAM.
Maintaining Teluq’s administrative and financial autonomy within UQAM; this would guarantee sufficient resources for further development of distance learning and quality services to students.
The respect of terms of amalgamation as expressed in the protocol signed by the TÉLUQ and UQÀM and put in concrete form in the supplementary letters patent granted by the government to UQAM.
The creation of an academic project on the development of distance learning in association with faculties and departments of UQAM, instead of the misappropriation of energies in a simplistic administrative and financial rationalization.
An honest attempt of the experimental framework of management of distance learning that respects the responsibilities of the faculties and departments of UQAM.
For a type of integration within the UQAM established jointly with TÉLUQ, in conformity with the supplementary letters patent of UQAM or, failing that, disengagement of the amalgamation.
